After taking a number of years off from my blog to help raise my two kids, I am finally back to creating new content. I have written a couple articles and also made five new videos, revived my newsletter, and created a health and fitness Facebook page.

There will be much more to come in the future, but for now, please let me know if there are any topics you want me to cover in the near future. My intent is to create an interactive community to discuss issues related to exercise, nutrition, psychology, and anything else that will help people reach their goals.
People in health and fitness constantly cite scientific studies to enhance presentations or promote products, but the data is often misused. Understanding how data can be manipulated is one of the best ways to avoid being swayed by false information.
It can be very difficult to separate quality sources of health and fitness information from misleading or untruthful information used for manipulation or product promotion. One of the primary reasons is because sources of quality information and sources of mediocre information both use scientific data to make their information come across as more factual or compelling.

As strange as it sounds, fitness professionals and medical professionals are often not on the same page when it comes to health and fitness. This post discusses “Exercise is Medicine” and explains why programs such as this one are important for bridging the large gap between the fitness and medical communities.
Today I am taking a break from writing about a specific health and fitness topic to let you know about Exercise is Medicine, which is a joint initiative involving the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and the American Medical Association (AMA). The exciting thing about Exercise is Medicine is that it is one of the few programs where there is cooperation between a large fitness organization and a large medical organization. This may seem strange, but the fitness community and the medical community are often not on the same page and this could be a sign of better things to come.

This post discusses the SAID principle and explains how specific choices made during your workouts will affect the physical development of your body. Any training can provide some benefits to your body, but if you use the SAID principle, you will get the specific benefits you really desire.
In my previous post I discussed what I consider to be the first foundation of every effective exercise program: the General Adaptation Syndrome (GAS). This theory provides the basic information to explain why exercising at right intensity level is essential if you want to improve your body. However, it does not help explain anything about what type of exercise you should do to reach your specific goals, but that’s what the SAID principle is for.

There are numerous reasons to exercise and more different workout types than I can count, but regardless of your goals and your preferred method of working out, there are two things that must be incorporated into your program if you want it to be effective. These two foundations are not specific exercises or even types of workouts, but rather general scientific theories.

It seems as though more and more people feel as though they do not have control over their health. This post discusses how our everyday actions affect our overall health and explains that we have more control over how we look and feel than we realize.
This post is inspired by a book excerpt I recently read in the February 2010 issue of Wired magazine. The excerpt is from a new book titled The Decision Tree: Taking Control of Your Health in the New Era of Personalized Medicine and it is primarily about using decision trees to help you make better choices when making health related decisions. While the decision tree information was somewhat interesting and could be very useful to some people, it was the introductory information that really struck a nerve and made me want to write about this topic.
